Therefore suffered I thee not to touch her. 20,7 Now therefore restore the man's wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live; and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.' 20,8 And Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears; and the men were sore afraid. 20,9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him: 'What hast thou done unto us? and wherein have I sinned against thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.' 20,10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham: 'What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?' 20,11 And Abraham said: 'Because I thought: Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake. 20,12 And moreover she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and so she became my wife. 20,13 And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her: This is thy kindness which thou shalt show unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me: He is my brother.' 20,14 And Abimelech took sheep and oxen, and men-servants and women-servants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife. 20,15 And Abimelech said: 'Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.' 20,16 And unto Sarah he said: 'Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver; behold, it is for thee a covering of the eyes to all that are with thee; and before all men thou art righted.' 20,17 And Abraham prayed unto God; and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maid-servants; and they bore children. 20,18 For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife. {S} 21,1 And the LORD remembered Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as He had spoken. 21,2 And Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. 21,3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac. 21,4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

Genesis
1,1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 1,2 Now the earth was unformed and void, and darkness was upon

the face of the deep; and the spirit of God hovered over the face of the waters. 1,3 And God said: 'Let there be light.'

And there was light. 1,4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 1,5 And God

called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. {P}

1,6 And God said: 'Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.' 1,7

And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the

firmament; and it was so. 1,8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second

1,9 And God said: 'Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear.' And

1,20 And God said: 'Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let fowl fly above the earth in the open

waters swarmed, after its kind, and every winged fowl after its kind; and God saw that it was good. 1,22 And God blessed

them, saying: 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.' 1,23 And

there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day. {P}

1,24 And God said: 'Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of

the earth after its kind.' And it was so. 1,25 And God made the beast of the earth after its kind, and the cattle after

their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good. 1,26 And God said:

'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl

of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.' 1,27

And God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. 1,28 And God

blessed them; and God said unto them: 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion

over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that creepeth upon the earth.' 1,29 And

God said: 'Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in

which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed--to you it shall be for food; 1,30 and to every beast of the earth, and to every

fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is a living soul, [I have given] every

green herb for food.' And it was so. 1,31 And God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. And

there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. {P}

2,1 And the heaven and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2,2 And on the seventh day God finished His work

which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. 2,3 And God blessed the seventh

day, and hallowed it; because that in it He rested from all His work which God in creating had made. {P}

33,1 And this is the blessing wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death. 33,2 And he said: The LORD came from Sinai, and rose from Seir unto them; He shined forth from mount Paran, and He came from the myriads holy, at His right hand was a fiery law unto them. 33,3 Yea, He loveth the peoples, all His holy ones--they are in Thy hand; and they sit down at Thy feet, receiving of Thy words. 33,4 Moses commanded us a law, an inheritance of the congregation of Jacob. 33,5 And there was a king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people were gathered, all the tribes of Israel together. 33,6 Let Reuben live, and not die in that his men become few. {S} 33,7 And this for Judah, and he said: Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him in unto his people; his hands shall contend for him, and Thou shalt be a help against his adversaries. {P}

Deuteronomy 30,15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil, 30,16 in that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His ordinances; then thou shalt live and multiply, and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest in to possess it. 30,17 But if thy heart turn away, and thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; 30,18 I declare unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish; ye shall not prolong your days upon the land, whither thou passest over the Jordan to go in to possess it. 30,19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before thee life and death, the blessing and the curse; therefore choose life, that thou mayest live, thou and thy seed; 30,20 to love the LORD thy God, to hearken to His voice, and to cleave unto Him; for that is thy life, and the

31,14 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Behold, thy days approach that thou must die; call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, that I may give him a charge.' And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tent of meeting. 31,15 And the LORD appeared in the Tent in a pillar of cloud; and the pillar of cloud stood over the door of the Tent. 31,16 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Behold, thou art about to sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go astray after the foreign gods of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake Me, and break My covenant which I have made with them.

Deuteronomy 22,8 When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a parapet for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon thy house, if any man fall from thence. 22,9 Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with two kinds of seed; lest the fulness of the seed which thou hast sown be forfeited together with the increase of the vineyard. {S} 22,10 Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together. 22,11 Thou shalt not wear a mingled stuff, wool and linen together. {S} 22,12 Thou shalt make thee twisted cords upon the four corners of thy covering, wherewith thou coverest thyself. {S} 22,13 If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her, 22,14 and lay wanton charges against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say: 'I took this woman, and when I came nigh to her, I found not in her the tokens of virginity'; 22,15 then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the

Deuteronomy 21,22 And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree; 21,23 his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt surely bury him the same day; for he that is hanged is a reproach unto God; that thou defile not thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance. {S} 22,1 Thou shalt not see thy brother's ox or his sheep driven away, and hide thyself from them; thou shalt surely bring them back unto thy brother. 22,2 And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, and thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it home to thy house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother require it, and thou shalt restore it to him. 22,3 And so shalt thou do with his ass; and so shalt thou do with his garment; and so shalt thou do with every lost thing of thy brother's, which he hath lost, and thou hast found; thou mayest not hide thyself. {S} 22,4 Thou shalt not see thy brother's ass

22,6 If a bird's nest chance to be before thee in the way, in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs, and the dam sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the dam with the young; 22,7 thou shalt in any wise let the dam go, but the young thou mayest take unto thyself; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days. {S}

left. 2,28 Thou shalt sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink; only let me pass through on my feet; 2,29 as the children of Esau that dwell in Seir, and the Moabites that dwell in Ar, did unto me; until I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which the LORD our God giveth us.' 2,30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that He might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day. {S}

1,39 Moreover your little ones, that ye said should be a prey, and your children, that this day have no knowledge of good or evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it. 1,40 But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.' 1,41 Then ye answered and said unto me: 'We have sinned against the LORD, we will go up and fight, according to all that the LORD our God commanded us.' And ye girded on every man his weapons of war, and deemed it a light thing to go up into the hill-country. 1,42 And the LORD said unto me: 'Say unto them: Go not up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest ye be smitten before your enemies.' 1,43 So I spoke unto you, and ye hearkened not; but ye rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and were presumptuous, and went up into the hill-country. 1,44 And the Amorites, that dwell in that hill-country, came out against you, and chased you,
as bees do, and beat you down in Seir, even unto Hormah. 1,45 And ye returned and wept before the LORD; but the LORD hearkened not to your voice, nor gave ear unto you. 1,46 So ye abode in Kadesh many days, according unto the days that ye abode there. 2,1 Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as the LORD spoke unto me; and we compassed mount Seir many days. {S}

1,1 These are the words which Moses spoke unto all Israel beyond the Jordan; in the wilderness, in the Arabah, over against Suph, between Paran and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Di-zahab. 1,2 It is eleven days journey from Horeb unto Kadesh-barnea by the way of mount Seir. 1,3 And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke unto the children of Israel, according unto all that the LORD had given him in commandment unto them; 1,4 after he had smitten Sihon the king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, who dwelt in Ashtaroth, at Edrei; 1,5 beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, took Moses upon him to expound this law, saying: 1,6 The LORD our God spoke unto us in Horeb, saying: 'Ye have dwelt long enough in this mountain; 1,7 turn you, and take your journey, and go to the hill-country of the Amorites and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the Arabah, in
the hill-country, and in the Lowland, and in the South, and by the sea-shore; the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates. 1,8 Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD swore unto your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.' 1,9 And I spoke unto you at that time, saying: 'I am not able to bear you myself alone; 1,10 the LORD your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye are this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.-- 1,11 The LORD, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times so many more as ye are, and bless you, as He hath promised you!--

Numbers 22,2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. 22,3 And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many; and Moab was overcome with dread because of the children of Israel. 22,4 And Moab said unto the elders of Midian: 'Now will this multitude lick up all that is round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field.'--And Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.-- 22,5 And he sent messengers unto Balaam the son of Beor, to Pethor, which is by the River, to the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying: 'Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt; behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me. 22,6 Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me; peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land; for I know that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom
thou cursest is cursed.' 22,7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spoke unto him the words of Balak. 22,8 And he said unto them: 'Lodge here this night, and I will bring you back word, as the LORD may speak unto me'; and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam. 22,9 And God came unto Balaam, and said: 'What men are these with thee?' 22,10 And Balaam said unto God: 'Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me [saying]: 22,11 Behold the people that is come out of Egypt, it covereth the face of the earth; now, come curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to fight against them, and shall drive them out.' 22,12 And God said unto Balaam: 'Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people; for they are blessed.'

I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they keep murmuring against Me. 14,28 Say unto them: As I live, saith the LORD, surely as ye have spoken in Mine ears, so will I do to you: 14,29 your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness, and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, ye that have murmured against Me; 14,30 surely ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I lifted up My hand that I would make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. 14,31 But your little ones, that ye said would be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have rejected. 14,32 But as for you, your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness. 14,33 And your children shall be wanderers in the
wilderness forty years, and shall bear your strayings, until your carcasses be consumed in the wilderness. 14,34 After the number of the days in which ye spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know My displeasure. 14,35 I the LORD have spoken, surely this will I do unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against Me; in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.' 14,36 And the men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, and who, when they returned, made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land, 14,37 even those men that did bring up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before the LORD. 14,38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men that went to spy out the land. 14,39 And Moses told these words unto all the children of Israel;
and the people mourned greatly. 14,40 And they rose up early in the morning, and got them up to the top of the mountain, saying: 'Lo, we are here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised; for we have sinned.' 14,41 And Moses said: 'Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD, seeing it shall not prosper? 14,42 Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten down before your enemies. 14,43 For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you, and ye shall fall by the sword; forasmuch as ye are turned back from following the LORD, and the LORD will not be with you.' 14,44 But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain; nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp. 14,45 Then the Amalekite and the Canaanite, who dwelt in that hill-country, came down, and smote them and beat them down, even unto Hormah. {P}

15,1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 15,2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them: When ye are come into the land of your habitations, which I give unto you, 15,3 and will make an offering by fire unto the LORD, a burnt-offering, or a sacrifice, in fulfilment of a vow clearly uttered, or as a freewill-offering, or in your appointed seasons, to make a sweet savour unto the LORD, of the herd, or of the flock; 15,4 then shall he that bringeth his offering present unto the LORD a meal-offering of a tenth part of an ephah of fine flour mingled with the fourth part of a hin of oil; 15,5 and wine for the drink-offering, the fourth part of a hin, shalt thou prepare with the burnt-offering or for the sacrifice, for each lamb. 15,6 Or for a ram, thou shalt prepare for a meal-offering two tenth parts of an ephah of fine flour mingled with the third part of a hin of oil; 15,7 and for the drink-offering thou shalt present the third part of a hin
of wine, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

14,8 If the LORD delight in us, then He will bring us into this land, and give it unto us--a land which floweth with milk and honey. 14,9 Only rebel not against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us; their defence is removed from over them, and the LORD is with us; fear them not.' 14,10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones, when the glory of the LORD appeared in the tent of meeting unto all the children of Israel. {P}

14,11 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'How long will this people despise Me? and how long will they not believe in Me, for all the signs which I have wrought among them? 14,12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and destroy them, and will make of thee a nation greater and mightier than they.' 14,13 And Moses said unto the LORD: 'When the Egyptians shall hear--for Thou broughtest up this people in Thy might from among them-- 14,14 they will say to the inhabitants of this land, who have heard that Thou LORD art in the midst of this people; inasmuch as Thou LORD art seen face to face, and Thy cloud standeth over them, and Thou goest before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night; 14,15 now if Thou shalt kill this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of Thee will speak, saying: 14,16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which He swore unto them, therefore He hath slain them in
the wilderness. 14,17 And now, I pray Thee, let the power of the LORD be great, according as Thou hast spoken, saying: 14,18 The LORD is slow to anger, and plenteous in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation. 14,19 Pardon, I pray Thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of Thy lovingkindness, and according as Thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.' 14,20 And the LORD said: 'I have pardoned according to thy word. 14,21 But in very deed, as I live--and all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD-- 14,22 surely all those men that have seen My glory, and My signs, which I wrought in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have put Me to proof these ten times, and have not hearkened to My voice; 14,23 surely they shall not see the land which I swore
unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that despised Me see it. 14,24 But My servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed Me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it. 14,25 Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the Vale; tomorrow turn ye, and get you into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.' {P}

10,29 And Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law: 'We are journeying unto the place of which the LORD said: I will give it you; come thou with us, and we will do thee good; for the LORD hath spoken good concerning Israel.' 10,30 And he said unto him: 'I will not go; but I will depart to mine own land, and to my kindred.' 10,31 And he said: 'Leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou shalt be to us instead of eyes. 10,32 And it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what good soever the LORD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee.' 10,33 And they set forward from the mount of the LORD three days' journey; and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting-place for them. 10,34 And the cloud of the LORD was over them by day, when they set forward from the camp. {S}
10,35 And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said: 'Rise up, O LORD, and let Thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate Thee flee before Thee.' 10,36 And when it rested, he said: 'Return, O LORD, unto the ten thousands of the families of Israel.' {P}

11,1 And the people were as murmurers, speaking evil in the ears of the LORD; and when the LORD heard it, His anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and devoured in the uttermost part of the camp. 11,2 And the people cried unto Moses; and Moses prayed unto the LORD, and the fire abated. 11,3 And the name of that place was called Taberah, because the fire of the LORD burnt among them. 11,4 And the mixed multitude that was among them fell a lusting; and the children of Israel also wept on their part, and said: 'Would that we were given flesh to eat! 11,5 We remember the fish, which we were wont to eat in Egypt for nought; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic; 11,6 but now our soul is dried away; there is nothing at all; we have nought save this manna to look to.'--
11,7 Now the manna was like coriander seed, and the appearance thereof as the appearance of bdellium. 11,8 The people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in mortars, and seethed it in pots, and made cakes of it; and the taste of it was as the taste of a cake baked with oil. 11,9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.--
11,10 And Moses heard the people weeping, family by family, every man at the door of his tent; and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; and Moses was displeased. 11,11 And Moses said unto the LORD: 'Wherefore hast Thou dealt ill with Thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in Thy sight, that Thou layest the burden of all this people upon me? 11,12 Have I conceived all this people? have I brought them forth, that Thou shouldest say unto me: Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing-father carrieth the sucking child, unto the land which Thou didst swear unto their fathers? 11,13 Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they trouble me with their weeping, saying: Give us flesh, that we may eat. 11,14 I am not able to bear all this people myself alone, because it is too heavy for me. 11,15 And if Thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray Thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in Thy sight; and let me not look upon my
wretchedness.' {P}

11,16 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Gather unto Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with thee. 11,17 And I will come down and speak with thee there; and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone. 11,18 And say thou unto the people: Sanctify yourselves against to-morrow, and ye shall eat flesh; for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying: Would that we were given flesh to eat! for it was well with us in Egypt; therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat. 11,19 Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days; 11,20 but a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you; because that ye have rejected the
LORD who is among you, and have troubled Him with weeping, saying: Why, now, came we forth out of Egypt?' 11,21 And Moses said: 'The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand men on foot; and yet Thou hast said: I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month! 11,22 If flocks and herds be slain for them, will they suffice them? or if all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, will they suffice them?' {P}

11,23 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'Is the LORD'S hand waxed short? now shalt thou see whether My word shall come to pass unto thee or not.' 11,24 And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD; and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the Tent. 11,25 And the LORD came down in the cloud, and spoke unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and put it upon the seventy elders; and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, but they did so no more. 11,26 But there remained two men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad; and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were recorded, but had not gone out unto the Tent; and they prophesied in the camp. 11,27 And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said: 'Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.' 11,28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses from
his youth up, answered and said: 'My lord Moses, shut them in.' 11,29 And Moses said unto him: 'Art thou jealous for my sake? would that all the LORD'S people were prophets, that the LORD would put His spirit upon them!'

11,30 And Moses withdrew into the camp, he and the elders of Israel. 11,31 And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought across quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, about a day's journey on this side, and a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and about two cubits above the face of the earth. 11,32 And the people rose up all that day, and all the night, and all the next day, and gathered the quails; he that gathered least gathered ten heaps; and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp. 11,33 While the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague. 11,34 And the name of that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people that lusted. 11,35 From Kibroth-hattaavah the people journeyed unto Hazeroth; and they abode at Hazeroth. {P}

12,1 And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married; for he had married a Cushite woman. 12,2 And they said: 'Hath the LORD indeed spoken only with Moses? hath He not spoken also with us?' And the LORD heard it.-- 12,3 Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men that were upon the face of the earth.-- {S} 12,4 And the LORD spoke suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam: 'Come out ye three unto the tent of meeting.' And they three came out. 12,5 And the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at the door of the Tent, and called Aaron and Miriam; and they both came forth. 12,6 And He said: 'Hear now My words: if there be a prophet among you, I the LORD do make Myself known unto him in a vision, I do speak with him in a dream. 12,7 My servant Moses is not so; he is trusted in all My house; 12,8 with him do I speak mouth to mouth, even manifestly, and not in dark speeches; and the
similitude of the LORD doth he behold; wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against My servant, against Moses?' 12,9 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and He departed. 12,10 And when the cloud was removed from over the Tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow; and Aaron looked upon Miriam; and, behold, she was leprous. 12,11 And Aaron said unto Moses: 'Oh my lord, lay not, I pray thee, sin upon us, for that we have done foolishly, and for that we have sinned. 12,12 Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother's womb.' 12,13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying: 'Heal her now, O God, I beseech Thee.' {P}

12,14 And the LORD said unto Moses: 'If her father had but spit in her face, should she not hide in shame seven days? let her be shut up without the camp seven days, and after that she shall be brought in again.' 12,15 And Miriam was shut up without the camp seven days; and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again. 12,16 And afterward the people journeyed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the wilderness of Paran. {P}

hundred and thirty. 41 These are they that were numbered of the families of the sons of Gershon, of all that did serve in the tent of meeting, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of the LORD. 42 And those that were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, by their families, by their fathers' houses, 43 from thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one that entered upon the service, for service in the tent of meeting, 44 even those that were numbered of them by their families, were three thousand and two hundred. 45 These are they that were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses. 46 All those that were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron and the princes of Israel numbered, by their families, and by their fathers' houses, 47 from thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one
that entered in to do the work of service, and the work of bearing burdens in the tent of meeting, 48 even those that were numbered of them, were eight thousand and five hundred and fourscore. 49 According to the commandment of the LORD they were appointed by the hand of Moses, every one to his service, and to his burden; they were also numbered, as the LORD commanded Moses. {P}

3,1 Now these are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that the LORD spoke with Moses in mount Sinai. 3,2 And these are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the first-born, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 3,3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests that were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest's office. 3,4 And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children; and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest's office in the presence of Aaron their father. {P}

3,5 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 3,6 'Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him. 3,7 And they shall keep his charge, and the charge of the whole congregation before the tent of meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle. 3,8 And they shall keep all the furniture of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle. 3,9 And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons; they are wholly given unto him from the children of Israel. 3,10 And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, that they may keep their priesthood; and the common man that draweth nigh shall be put to death.' {P}

3,11 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 3,12 'And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of every first-born that openeth the womb among the children of Israel; and the Levites shall be Mine; 3,13 for all the first-born are Mine: on the day that I smote all the first-born in the land of Egypt I hallowed unto Me all the first-born in Israel, both man and beast, Mine they shall be: I am the LORD.' {P}

27,1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying: 27,2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them: When a man shall clearly utter a vow of persons unto the LORD, according to thy valuation, 27,3 then thy valuation shall be for the male from twenty years old even unto sixty years old, even thy valuation shall be fifty shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary. 27,4 And if it be a female, then thy valuation shall be thirty shekels. 27,5 And if it be from five years old even unto twenty years old, then thy valuation shall be for the male twenty shekels, and for the female ten shekels. 27,6 And if it be from a month old even unto five years old, then thy valuation shall be for the male five shekels of silver, and for the female thy valuation shall be three shekels of silver. 27,7 And if it be from sixty years old and upward: if it be a male, then thy valuation shall be fifteen shekels, and for the female ten shekels. 27,8 But if he be too poor

sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed any more. 27,21 But the field, when it goeth out in the jubilee, shall be holy unto the LORD, as a field devoted; the possession thereof shall be the priest's. 27,22 And if he sanctify unto the LORD a field which he hath bought, which is not of the field of his possession; 27,23 then the priest shall reckon unto him the worth of thy valuation unto the year of jubilee; and he shall give thy valuation in that day, as a holy thing unto the LORD. 27,24 In the year of jubilee the field shall return unto him of whom it was bought, even to him to whom the possession of the land belongeth. 27,25 And all thy valuations shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary; twenty gerahs shall be the shekel. 27,26 Howbeit the firstling among beasts, which is born as a firstling to the LORD, no man shall sanctify it; whether it be ox or sheep, it is the LORD'S. 27,27 And if it be of an unclean beast, then he
shall ransom it according to thy valuation, and shall add unto it the fifth part thereof; or if it be not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to thy valuation. 27,28 Notwithstanding, no devoted thing, that a man may devote unto the LORD of all that he hath, whether of man or beast, or of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed; every devoted thing is most holy unto the LORD. 27,29 None devoted, that may be devoted of men, shall be ransomed; he shall surely be put to death. 27,30 And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S; it is holy unto the LORD. 27,31 And if a man will redeem aught of his tithe, he shall add unto it the fifth part thereof. 27,32 And all the tithe of the herd or the flock, whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto the LORD. 27,33 He shall not inquire whether it be good or bad, neither shall he change it; and if he change it at all,

Leviticus 26,10 And ye shall eat old store long kept, and ye shall bring forth the old from before the new. 26,11 And I will set My tabernacle among you, and My soul shall not abhor you. 26,12 And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be My people. 26,13 I am the LORD your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bars of your yoke, and made you go upright. {P}

26,14 But if ye will not hearken unto Me, and will not do all these commandments; 26,15 and if ye shall reject My statutes, and if your soul abhor Mine ordinances, so that ye will not do all My commandments, but break My covenant; 26,16 I also will do this unto you: I will appoint terror over you, even consumption and fever, that shall make the eyes to fail, and the soul to languish; and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 26,17 And I will set My face against you, and ye shall be smitten before your enemies; they that hate you shall rule over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you. 26,18 And if ye will not yet for these things hearken unto Me, then I will chastise you seven times more for your sins. 26,19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass. 26,20 And your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land shall not yield her produce, neither shall the trees

And ye may make them an inheritance for your children after you, to hold for a possession: of them may ye take your bondmen for ever; but over your brethren the children of Israel ye shall not rule, one over another, with rigour. {S}

Holy War

WAR WITH IRAN COULD LAST YEARS, SAYS BAR-ILAN U. RESEARCHER

If war breaks out between Iran and Israel, it likely would last for "years and not weeks," according to Bar-Ilan University researcher Dr. Moshe Vered. Iran also might target Jews around the world.
He calls on Israel to internalize the prospect of an unprecedented lengthy war and explains that once the government and public understand the threat, they will be better prepared to find ways to shorten the conflict.
A researcher at the university's Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies, he recently published a sobering paper that based his hypothesis on the Iranian Shi'ite Muslim approach that the very existence of Israel is an insult to Muslims. He states that its philosophy is that "Allah promises them victory" and there is an obligation of Muslims to sacrifice themselves and surrender material goods for the sake of annihilating the Jewish State.
Entitled "The length and conditions for ending a future war between Iran and Israel," the research paper notes that Iran fought Iraq for eight years despite suffering the deaths of half a million people, with another two million wounded and catastrophic damage to the economic infrastructure, amounting to $100 billion.
Dr. Vered (pictured at left) pointed out that the war ended only when the Shi'ite rulers in Iran realized that the regime was in jeopardy. Until then, the leaders felt there was no room for compromise.
The scenario
He rules out ideas that a quick missile war would put an end to a conflict because neither side would score a "knock-out," and Iran does not have the capability of successfully attacking Israel with hundreds of long-range missiles.
He predicts it is more likely that if Israel initiates a pre-emptive strike, Iran will play the role of the victim and let the international community condemn Israel. At the same time, Tehran would secretly ferry troops into Syria and Lebanon, possibly through Shi'ite communities in Iraq and with the silent approval of Turkey.
The next stage in the war would be massive rocket attacks by Hamas from the south and Hizbullah from the north. Israeli military intelligence officials estimate that both terrorist organizations possess advanced missiles far beyond what were used in the 34-day-old Second Lebanon War in 2006.
With long-range weapons that could be fired from deep in Lebanon, Israel would be forced into capturing most of the country, and face a deadly and costly guerilla war. At the same time, a massive military threat from Syrian territory to the Golan Heights would require large numbers of reservists to defend the region.
El Al planes to be targeted?
Iran also probably would try to target Jews around the world, especially El Al planes, synagogues, Israeli offices abroad and Jewish community centers. Hamas would resume suicide attacks against Israel.
Dr. Vered points out that there are those who think that Iran's verbal threats against Israel are for internal political consumption, in which case war is a distant possibility. However, Shi'ite fundamentalism requires a "holy war" to wipe out Israel, whose existence violates Muslim principles against Jews ruling "Muslim land," meaning Israel, and having sovereignty over Muslims in the country. Israel also stands in Iran's way to become the dominant force in the Middle East.
Muslim rulers always have tolerated Jews on condition that they are a small minority and dependent on their host rulers, Dr. Vered explains.
His sees three possibilities for a quick end to a war, barring a new level of understanding and preparedness by Israel. International interference and the use of nuclear weapons, presumably by Israel, are two options.
However, he explains that whereas world leaders previously shortened Israeli-Arab wars, with Israel usually having the upper hand, the Jewish State presumably would not be in such an advantageous position against Iran. The result would be pressure on Tehran, where the Shi'ite philosophy does not allow compromise.
Pressure would be wielded against Israel if the Israeli Air Force were to bomb Iran's oil fields, causing the price of oil to soar. Iran would use that circumstance to strengthen its determination to annihilate Israel.
The use of nuclear weapons is far off in the horizon, Dr. Vered avers.
He sees one other solution to shorten the war: an American decision to join Israel and strike Iran.

MEDITATION: Diversity brought down the Solomonic Kingdom.

1 Kings Chapter 11

1 Now king Solomon loved many foreign women, besides the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites; 2 of the nations concerning which the LORD said unto the children of Israel: 'Ye shall not go among them, neither shall they come among you; for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods'; Solomon did cleave unto these in love. 3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart. 4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not whole with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. 5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the detestation of the Ammonites. 6 And Solomon did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father. {S} 7 Then did Solomon build a high
place for Chemosh the detestation of Moab, in the mount that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the detestation of the children of Ammon. 8 And so did he for all his foreign wives, who offered and sacrificed unto their gods. 9 And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared unto him twice, 10 and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he kept not that which the LORD commanded. {P}

11 Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon: 'Forasmuch as this hath been in thy mind, and thou hast not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant. 12 Notwithstanding in thy days I will not do it, for David thy father's sake; but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son. 13 Howbeit I will not rend away all the kingdom; but I will give one tribe to thy son; for David My servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.' {S} 14 And the LORD raised up an adversary unto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was of the king's seed in Edom. 15 For it came to pass, when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the host was gone up to bury the slain, and had smitten every male in Edom-- 16 for Joab and all Israel remained there six months, until he had cut off every male in Edom-- 17 that Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father's servants with him, to go
into Egypt; Hadad being yet a little child. 18 And they arose out of Midian, and came to Paran; and they took men with them out of Paran, and they came to Egypt, unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house, and appointed him victuals, and gave him land. 19 And Hadad found great favour in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him to wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen. 20 And the sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh's house; and Genubath was in Pharaoh's house among the sons of Pharaoh. 21 And when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the host was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh: 'Let me depart, that I may go to mine own country.' 22 Then Pharaoh said unto him: 'But what hast thou lacked with me, that, behold, thou seekest to go to thine own country?' another adversary unto him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah. 24 And he gathered men unto him, and became captain over a troop, when David slew them [of Zobah]; and they went to Damascus, and dwelt therein, and reigned in Damascus. 25 And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, beside the mischief that Hadad did; and he abhorred Israel, and reigned over Aram. {P}

26 And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widow, he also lifted up his hand against the king. 27 And this was the cause that he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breach of the city of David his father. 28 And the man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valour; and Solomon saw the young man that he was industrious, and he gave him charge over all the labour of the house of Joseph. {S} 29 And it came to pass at that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the way; now Ahijah had clad himself with a new garment; and they two were alone in the field. 30 And Ahijah laid hold of the new garment that was on him, and rent it in twelve pieces. 31 And he said to Jeroboam: 'Take thee ten pieces; for thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Behold, I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will
give ten tribes to thee-- 32 but he shall have one tribe, for My servant David's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel-- 33 because that they have forsaken Me, and have worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon; and they have not walked in My ways, to do that which is right in Mine eyes, and to keep My statutes and Mine ordinances, as did David his father. 34 Howbeit I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand; but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David My servant's sake, whom I chose, because he kept My commandments and My statutes; 35 but I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand, and will give it unto thee, even ten tribes. 36 And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David My servant may have a lamp alway before Me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen Me to put My name there. 37
And I will take thee, and thou shalt reign over all that thy soul desireth, and shalt be king over Israel. 38 And it shall be, if thou wilt hearken unto all that I command thee, and wilt walk in My ways, and do that which is right in Mine eyes, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as David My servant did, that I will be with thee, and will build thee a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel unto thee. 39 And I will for this afflict the seed of David, but not for ever.' {S} 40 Solomon sought therefore to kill Jeroboam; but Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, unto Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon. {S} 41 Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon? 42 And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years. 43 And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father;
