Father in Heaven,
May Your Name Alone be Blessed forever.

Memorial Day - "The Nations in an Uproar"

The nations are in an uproar because they refuse to follow the one true God - the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - the God of the Universe, the King of Israel.

It saddens me this day that we The United States of America have fallen into the same category.

We are become a blindly tolerant nation that recognizes foreign gods, which are no-gods. God has never tolerated this sin.

Maybe there is yet repentance, but there is certain judgement.

Pray for your eternal home: May they prosper that love thee, O Jerusalem.

PS 2:1 Why are the nations in an uproar? And why do the peoples mutter in vain?
PS 2:2 The kings of the earth stand up, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed:
PS 2:3 'Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.'

Bush honors Coast Guard for Katrina response

President Bush on Thursday conferred a Presidential Unit Citation on the Coast Guard for its valiant response to Hurricane Katrina.

Citing impressive statistics — more than 4,000 Coast Guardsmen worked to save 33,500 people stranded along the Gulf Coast last year — Bush described the relief effort as “one of the finest hours in the Coast Guard’s 216-year history.


“When Americans were at their most desperate, they looked to the skies for help, and they knew their prayers were answered when they saw the rescue choppers from the United States Coast Guard," Bush said.

The PUC, as it's nicknamed, is the highest military honor bestowed to a unit. The citation ribbon has horizontal blue, yellow and red stripes.

The president handed down the honors during the service’s change of command ceremony at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C.

Adm. Thad Allen, recognized by most of the country as the man who replaced FEMA Director Michael Brown to lead federal Katrina relief operations, relieved Adm. Thomas Collins as the service’s commandant.

The award is issued for the period between Aug. 29 and Sept. 13, 2005.

Details as to who is eligible to wear it have not yet been released, but it’s likely to include everyone on active duty during the time frame as well as some, if not all, reservists.

Psalms for Day 29

Chapter 140

David composed this psalm against his slanderers, especially the chief conspirator Doeg. Anyone confronted by slanderers should recite this psalm.

1. For the Conductor, a psalm by David. 2. Rescue me from the evil man, protect me from the man of violence, 3. who devise evil schemes in their heart; every day they gather for wars. 4. They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; the spider's venom is forever under their lips. 5. Guard me, Lord, from the hands of the wicked, protect me from the man of violence-those who plot to cause my steps to slip. 6. Arrogant ones have hidden a snare for me, and ropes; they spread a net by my path, they set traps for me continually. 7. I said to the Lord, "You are my God!" Listen, O Lord, to the voice of my pleas. 8. God, my Lord, the strength of my deliverance, You sheltered my head on the day of armed battle. 9. Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked; fulfill not his scheme, make it unattainable forever. 10. As for the head of my besiegers, let the deceit of their own lips bury them. 11. Let burning coals fall upon them; let it cast them down into the fire, into deep pits, never to rise again. 12. Let not the slanderous man be established in the land; let the evil of the man of violence trap him until he is overthrown. 13. Chapter 141

This psalm teaches an important lesson: One should pray for Divine assistance that his mouth not speak that which is not in his heart. The gatekeeper only allows the gate to be opened for a purpose; let it be the same with one's lips.

1. A psalm by David. O Lord, I have called You, hasten to me; listen to my voice when I call to You. 2. Let my prayer be set forth as incense before You, the raising of my hands as an afternoon offering. 3. O Lord, place a guard for my mouth, keep watch over the door of my lips. 4. Do not incline my heart to a bad thing-to perform deeds in wickedness, with men, doers of evil; let me not partake of their delicacies. 5. Let the righteous one strike me with kindness and let him rebuke me; like the finest oil, let my head not refuse it. For as long [as I live], my prayer is [to preserve me] from their harm. 6. For their judges have slipped because of their [hearts of] rock, though they heard my words and they were pleasant. 7. As one who chops and splinters [wood] on the ground, so have our bones been scattered to the mouth of the grave. 8. For to You, God, my Lord, are my eyes; in You I take shelter; do not pour out my soul. 9. Protect me from the hands of the snare they laid for me, and from the traps of the evildoers. 10. Let the wicked fall into their own nets together, until I pass over.

Chapter 142

David composed this psalm while hiding from Saul in a cave, at which time he had cut off the corner of Saul's garment (to prove that he was able to kill him but did not wish to do so). He declared, "Where can I turn, and where can I run? All I have is to cry out to You!"

1. A maskil1 by David, when he was in the cave, a prayer. 2. With my voice I will cry out to the Lord; with my voice I will call to the Lord in supplication. 3. I will pour out my plea before Him; I will declare my distress in His presence. 4. When my spirit is faint within me, You know my path. In the way in which I walk, they have hidden a snare for me. 5. Look to my right and see, there is none that will know me; every escape is lost to me. No man cares for my soul. 6. I cried out to You, O Lord; I said, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” 7. Listen to my song of prayer, for I have been brought very low. Deliver me from my pursuers, for they are too mighty for me. 8. Release my soul from confinement, so that it may acknowledge Your Name. Because of me, the righteous will crown [You] when You will deal graciously with me.

Chapter 143

Chapter 144

After triumphing in all his wars, David composed this psalm in praise of God.

1. By David. Blessed be the Lord, my Rock, Who trains my hands for battle and my fingers for war. 2. My source of kindness and my fortress, my high tower and my rescuer, my shield, in Whom I take refuge; it is He Who makes my people submit to me. 3. O Lord, what is man that You have recognized him; the son of a mortal, that You are mindful of him? 4. Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. 5. O Lord, incline Your heavens and descend; touch the mountains and they will become vapor. 6. Flash one bolt of lightning and You will scatter them; send out Your arrows and You will confound them. 7. Stretch forth Your hands from on high, rescue me and deliver me out of many waters, from the hand of strangers, 8. whose mouth speaks deceit and whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood. 9. Chapter 145

One who recites this psalm three times daily with absolute concentration is guaranteed a portion in the World to Come. Because of its prominence, this psalm was composed in alphabetical sequence.

1. A psalm of praise by David: I will exalt You, my God the King, and bless Your Name forever. 2. Every day I will bless You, and extol Your Name forever. 3. The Lord is great and exceedingly exalted; there is no limit to His greatness. 4. One generation to another will laud Your works, and tell of Your mighty acts. 5. I will speak of the splendor of Your glorious majesty and of Your wondrous deeds. 6. They will proclaim the might of Your awesome acts, and I will recount Your greatness. 7. They will express the remembrance of Your abounding goodness, and sing of Your righteousness. 8. The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and of great kindness. 9. The Lord is good to all, and His mercies extend over all His works. 10. Lord, all Your works will give thanks to You, and Your pious ones will bless You. 11. Chapter 146

This psalm inspires man to repent and perform good deeds while still alive. Let him not rely on mortals who are unable to help themselves, and who may suddenly pass on. Rather, one should put his trust in God, Who is capable of carrying out all He desires.

1. Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul. 2. I will sing to the Lord with my soul; I will chant praises to my God while I yet exist. 3. Do not place your trust in nobles, nor in mortal man who has not the ability to bring deliverance. 4. When his spirit departs, he returns to his earth; on that very day, his plans come to naught. 5. Fortunate is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope rests upon the Lord his God. 6. He makes the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them; He keeps His promise faithfully forever. 7. He renders justice to the oppressed; He gives food to the hungry; the Lord releases those who are bound. 8. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; the Lord straightens those who are bowed; the Lord loves the righteous. 9. The Lord watches over the strangers; He gives strength to orphan and widow; He thwarts the way of the wicked. 10. The Lord shall reign forever, your God, O Zion, throughout all generations. Chapter 147

This psalm recounts God's greatness, and His kindness and goodness to His creations.

1. Praise the Lord! Sing to our God for He is good; praise befits Him for He is pleasant. 2. The Lord is the rebuilder of Jerusalem; He will gather the banished of Israel. 3. He heals the broken-hearted, and bandages their wounds. 4. He counts the number of the stars; He gives a name to each of them. 5. Great is our Master and abounding in might; His understanding is beyond reckoning. 6. The Lord strengthens the humble; He casts the wicked to the ground. 7. Lift your voices to the Lord in gratitude; sing to our God with the harp. 8. He covers the heaven with clouds; He prepares rain for the earth, and makes grass grow upon the mountains. 9. He gives the animal its food, to the young ravens which cry to Him. 10. He does not desire [those who place their trust in] the strength of the horse, nor does He want those who rely upon the thighs [swiftness] of man. 11. He desires those who fear Him, those who long for His kindness. 12. Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem; Zion, extol your God. 13. For He has strengthened the bolts of your gates; He has blessed your children in your midst. 14. He has made peace within your borders; He satiates you with the finest of wheat. 15. He issues His command to the earth; swiftly does His word run. 16. He dispenses snow like fleece; He scatters frost like ashes. 17. He hurls His ice like morsels; who can withstand His cold? 18. He sends forth His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow. 19. He tells His words [Torah] to Jacob, His statutes and ordinances to Israel. 20. He has not done so for other nations, and they do not know [His] ordinances. Praise the Lord!

Chapter 148

The psalmist inspires one to praise God for His creations-above and below-all of which exist by God's might alone.

1. Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in the celestial heights. 2. Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His hosts. 3. Praise Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all the shining stars. 4. Praise Him, hea-ven of heavens, and the waters that are above the heavens. 5. Let them praise the Name of the Lord, for He comman-ded and they were created. 6. He has established them forever, for all time; He issued a decree, and it shall not be transgressed. 7. Praise the Lord from the earth, sea-monsters and all [that dwell in] the depths; 8. fire and hail, snow and vapor, stormy wind carrying out His command; 9. the mountains and all hills, fruit-bearing trees and all cedars; 10. the beasts and all cattle, creeping things and winged fowl; 11. kings of the earth and all nations, rulers and all judges of the land; 12. young men as well as maidens, elders with young lads. 13. Let them praise the Name of the Lord, for His Name is sublime, to Himself; its radiance [alone] is upon earth and heaven. 14. Chapter 149

1. Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, [recount] His praise in the assembly of the pious. 2. Israel will rejoice in its Maker; the children of Zion will delight in their King. 3. They will praise His Name with dancing; they will sing to Him with the drum and harp. 4. For the Lord desires His people; He will adorn the humble with salvation. 5. The pious will exult in glory; they will sing upon their beds. 6. The exaltation of God is in their throat, and a double-edged sword in their hand, 7. to bring retribution upon the nations, punishment upon the peoples; 8. to bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with iron fetters; 9. to execute upon them the prescribed judgment; it shall be a glory for all His pious ones. Chapter 150

This psalm contains thirteen praises, alluding to the Thirteen Attributes (of Mercy) with which God conducts the world.

1. Praise the Lord! Praise God in His holiness; praise Him in the firmament of His strength. 2. Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His abundant greatness. 3. Praise Him with the call of the shofar; praise Him with harp and lyre. 4. Praise Him with timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and flute. 5. Praise Him with resounding cymbals; praise Him with clanging cymbals. 6. Let every soul praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!

Today's Bible Study - Shabbat Shalom

The message from this past week's sedrah repeatedly talks about accounting. Within the first 13 months of the exodus three census are taken.

Each censsus results in the assignment of specific duty.

Does the L-rd account you? Does HaShem account you for no reason?

In the ensuing passages instruction is given for the specific duties regarding the sanctification (worship, if you will) of the name of G-d.

This too is your own purpose.

In all that you do realize that it brings glory to your Father who is in Heaven.

Numbers Chapter 41.

The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron saying:2. Make a count of the sons of Kohath from among the children of Levi by their families, according to their fathers' houses. 3. From the age of thirty until the age of fifty, all who enter the service, to do work in the Tent of Meeting.4. The following is the service of the sons of Kohath in the Tent of Meeting-the Holy of Holies.5. When the camp is about to travel, Aaron and his sons shall come and take down the dividing screen; with it, they shall cover the Ark of the Testimony. 6. They shall place upon it a covering of tachash skin and on top of that they shall spread a cloth of pure blue wool. Then they shall put its poles in place.7. They shall spread a cloth of blue wool on the Show Table and they shall place on it the forms, spoons, supports, and covering frames; the continual bread can then be placed upon it. 8. They shall spread upon them a cloth of crimson wool and cover that with a covering of tachash skin. Then they shall put its poles into place.9. They shall take a blue cloth and cover the menorah for lighting and its lamps, its tongs, and its scoops, and all its oil vessels used in performing its service.10. They shall put it and its vessels into a covering of tachash skin and place it on a pole. 11. They shall spread a cloth of blue wool over the golden altar and cover it with a covering of tachash skin, and then set its poles in place.12. They shall then take all the vessels used in the Holy, put them into a cloth of blue wool, cover them with a covering of tachash skin, and put them onto a pole.13. They shall remove the ashes from the altar and spread a cloth of purple wool over it.14. They shall place on it all the utensils with which they minister upon it: the scoops, the forks, the shovels, and the basins-all the implements of the altar. Then they shall spread over it a covering of tachash skin and set its poles into place.15. Aaron and his sons shall finish covering the Holy and all the vessels of the Holy when the camp is set to travel, and following that, the sons of Kohath shall come to carry [them], but they shall not touch the sacred objects for [then] they will die. These are the burden of the sons of Kohath for the Tent of Meeting.16. The charge of Eleazar the son of Aaron the kohen: oil for lighting, the incense of spices, the continual [daily] meal offering, and the anointing oil; the charge for the entire Mishkan and all that is in it, of the Holy and its furnishings. 17. The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron saying:18. Do not cause the tribe of the families of Kohath to be cut off from among the Levies. 19. Do this for them, so they should live and not die, when they approach the Holy of Holies. Aaron and his sons shall first come and appoint each man individually to his task and his load.20. They shall not come in to see when the holy [vessels] are being wrapped up, lest they die.

Heart Attack School: Change

I wish I could describe change.

When I was born-again I could not describe what had happened.

After I surrendered and called 911 on the night of my heart attack I knew that I did not know what would happen next. Same feeling.

It was more like a revelation, than a change.

It all made sense.

The culprit, salt, was heavy in my diet. Salt is an extra, not a necessity. Salt is in meat and plants we eat because they come from the earth. Same is true of sugar, except for natural occuring sugar.

Fat? Scripture is blatant. All fat is of God (Leviticus) and should not be eaten.

But for once this revelation hit my mind, not just my heart. I could not possibly "will" to change. I knew better. But I tried and still I did not change.

How does God affect our volition. Jesus explains that it is like the wind. You cannot know when it comes, where it comes from or what it will affect. But the evidence is clear. Why do leaves rustle and sand blow accros the terraine?

So, I conclude: ask, knock and seek for change. People cannot change. But they can be changed.

He change me. He changed you. Don't ask me how.

My will and His will are now pointed in the same direction. My task is mere obedience,which is joy I might add.

"Can two walk together except they be agreed" asks the prophet.

And [take] the Levites' animals instead of all the firstborn animals of the children of Israel. 42. So Moses counted every firstborn of Israel, as the Lord had commanded him. 43. The firstborn males aged one month and upward, according to the number of names, was twenty two thousand, two hundred and seventy three. 44. The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:45. Take the Levites instead of all the firstborns among the children of Israel and the Levites' animals instead of their animals, and the Levites shall be Mine I am the Lord.46. As for the two hundred and seventy three of the children of Israel who required redemption, who are in excess of the Levites, 47. you shall take five shekels per head, according to the holy shekel, by which the shekel is twenty gerahs. 48. Psalms for Day 28

Chapter 135

1. Praise the Lord! Praise the Name of the Lord; offer praise, you servants of the Lord- 2. who stand in the House of the Lord, in the courtyards of the House of our God. 3. Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing to His Name, for He is pleasant. 4. For God has chosen Jacob for Himself, Israel as His beloved treasure. 5. For I know that the Lord is great, our Master is greater than all supernal beings. 6. All that the Lord desired He has done, in the heavens and on earth, in the seas and the depths. 7. He causes mists to rise from the ends of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain; He brings forth the wind from His vaults. 8. It was He who struck down the firstborn of Egypt, of man and beast. 9. He sent signs and wonders into the midst of Egypt, on Pharaoh and on all his servants. 10. It was He who struck down many nations, and slew mighty kings: 11. Sichon, king of the Amorites; Og, king of Bashan; and all the kingdoms of Canaan. 12. And He gave their lands as a heritage, a heritage to His people Israel. 13. Lord, Your Name is forever; Lord, Your remembrance is throughout all generations. 14. Indeed, the Lord will judge on behalf of His people, and have compassion on His servants. 15. The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the product of human hands. 16. They have a mouth, but cannot speak; they have eyes, but cannot see; 17. they have ears, but cannot hear; nor is there breath in their mouth. 18. Like them will their makers become-all who trust in them. 19. House of Israel, bless the Lord; House of Aaron, bless the Lord; 20. House of Levi, bless the Lord; you who fear the Lord, bless the Lord. 21. Blessed is the Lord from Zion, who dwells in Jerusalem. Praise the Lord!

Chapter 136

This psalm contains twenty-six verses, corresponding to the twenty-six generations between the creation of the world and the giving of the Torah.

1. Praise the Lord for He is good, for His kindness is forever. 2. Praise the God of the supernal beings, for His kindness is forever. 3. Praise the Master of the heavenly hosts, for His kindness is forever. 4. Who alone performs great wonders, for His kindness is forever. 5. Who makes the heavens with understanding, for His kindness is forever. 6. Who spreads forth the earth above the waters, for His kindness is forever. 7. Who makes the great lights, for His kindness is forever. 8. The sun to rule by day, for His kindness is forever. 9. The moon and stars to rule by night, for His kindness is forever. 10. Who struck Egypt through its firstborn, for His kindness is forever. 11. And brought Israel out of their midst, for His kindness is forever. 12. With a strong hand and with an outstretched arm, for His kindness is forever. 13. Who split the Sea of Reeds into sections, for His kindness is forever. 14. And brought Israel across it, for His kindness is forever. 15. And cast Pharaoh and his army into the Sea of Reeds, for His kindness is forever. 16. Who led His people through the desert, for His kindness is forever; 17. Who struck down great kings, for His kindness is forever. 18. And slew mighty kings, for His kindness is forever. 19. Sichon, king of the Amorites, for His kindness is forever. 20. And Og, king of Bashan, for His kindness is forever. 21. And gave their land as a heritage, for His kindness is forever. 22. A heritage to Israel His servant, for His kindness is forever. 23. Who remembered us in our humiliation, for His kindness is forever. 24. And redeemed us from our oppressors, for His kindness is forever. 25. Who gives food to all flesh, for His kindness is forever. 26. Praise the God of heaven, for His kindness is forever.

Chapter 137

Referring to the time of the destruction of the Temple, this psalm tells of when Nebuchadnezzar would ask the Levites to sing in captivity as they had in the Temple, to which they would reply, "How can we sing the song of God upon alien soil?" They were then comforted by Divine inspiration.

1. By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat and wept as we remembered Zion. 2. There, upon the willows, we hung our harps. 3. For there our captors demanded of us songs, and those who scorned us-rejoicing, [saying,] "Sing to us of the songs of Zion.” 4. How can we sing the song of the Lord on alien soil? 5. If I forget you, Jerusalem, let my right hand forget [its dexterity]. 6. Let my tongue cleave to my palate if I will not remember you, if I will not bring to mind Jerusalem during my greatest joy! 7. Remember, O Lord, against the Edomites the day of [the destruction of] Jerusalem, when they said, "Raze it, raze it to its very foundation!” 8. O Babylon, who is destined to be laid waste, happy is he who will repay you in retribution for what you have inflicted on us. 9. Happy is he who will seize and crush your infants against the rock!

Chapter 138

David offers awesome praises to God for His kindness to him, and for fulfilling His promise to grant him kingship.

1. By David. I will thank You with all my heart, in the presence of princes I shall praise You. 2. I will bow toward Your Holy Sanctuary, and praise Your Name for Your kindness and for Your truth; for You have exalted Your word above all Your Names. 3. On the day that I called out You answered me, You emboldened me, [You put] strength in my soul. 4. Lord, all the kings of the land will give thanks to You when they hear the words of Your mouth. 5. And they will sing of the Lord's ways, for the glory of the Lord is great. 6. For though the Lord is exalted, He sees the lowly; the High One castigates from afar. 7. If I walk in the midst of distress, keep me alive; against the wrath of my enemies stretch out Your hand, and let Your right hand deliver me. 8. Lord, complete [Your kindness] on my behalf. Lord, Your kindness is forever, do not forsake the work of Your hands.

Chapter 139

A most prominent psalm that guides man in the ways of God as no other in all of the five books of Tehillim. Fortunate is he who recites it daily.

1. For the Conductor, by David, a psalm. O Lord, You have probed me, and You know. 2. You know my sitting down and my standing up; You perceive my thought from afar. 3. You encircle my going about and my lying down; You are familiar with all my paths. 4. For there was not yet a word on my tongue-and behold, Lord, You knew it all. 5. You have besieged me front and back, You have laid Your hand upon me. 6. Knowledge [to escape You] is beyond me; it is exalted, I cannot know it. 7. Where can I go [to escape] Your spirit? And where can I flee from Your presence? 8. If I ascend to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the grave, behold, You are there. 9. Were I to take up wings as the dawn and dwell in the furthest part of the sea, 10. there, too, Your hand would guide me; Your right hand would hold me. 11. Were I to say, "Surely the darkness will shadow me," then the night would be as light around me. 12. Even the darkness obscures nothing from You; and the night shines like the day-the darkness is as light. 13. For You created my mind; You covered me in my mother's womb. 14. I will thank You, for I was formed in an awesome and wondrous way; unfathomable are Your works, though my soul perceives much. 15. My essence was not hidden from You even while I was born in concealment, formed in the depths of the earth. 16. Your eyes beheld my raw form; all [happenings] are inscribed in Your book, even those to be formed in future days-to Him they are the same. 17. How precious are Your thoughts to me, O God! How overwhelming, [even] their beginnings! 18. Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sand, even if I were to remain awake and always with You. 19. O that You would slay the wicked, O God, and men of blood [to whom I say], "Depart from me!” 20. They exalt You for wicked schemes, Your enemies raise [You] for falsehood. 21. Indeed, I hate those who hate You, Lord; I contend with those who rise up against You. 22. I hate them with the utmost hatred; I regard them as my own enemies. 23. Search me, Lord, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. 24. See if there is a vexing way in me, then lead me in the way of the world.

Chapter 3

14. The Lord spoke to Moses in the Sinai desert, saying:
15. Count the children of Levi according to their fathers' house according to their families. Count all males from the age of one month and upward.
16. So Moses counted them according to God's word, just as he was commanded. 17. These were the names of Levi's sons: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 18. The names of the sons of Gershon according to their families were Libni and Shim'ei. 19. And the sons of Kohath according to their families were Amram, Itzhar, Hebron, and Uziel. 20. And the sons of Merari according to their families were Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of Levi according to their fathers' houses.
21. For Gershon, the Libnite family and the Shim'eite family; these are the Gershonite families. 22. Their sum was made according to the number of males from the age of one month and upward; the tally amounted to seven thousand, five hundred. 23. The Gershonite families shall camp behind the Mishkan, to the west. 24. The prince of the father's house of the Gershonites is Eliasaph the son of Lael.
25. The charge of the sons of Gershon in the Tent of Meeting [included] the Mishkan, the Tent, its cover, and the screen for the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
26. The hangings of the courtyard, the screen at the entrance to the courtyard, which is around the Mishkan and the altar, its ropes, as well as all the work involved. 27. For Kohath, the Amramite family, the Izharite family, the Hebronite family, and the Uzielite family; these are the families of Kohath. 28. The number of all males from the age of one month and upward amounted to eight thousand six hundred, the keepers of the charge of the holy.
29. The families of the sons of Kohath shall camp to the south side of the Mishkan. 30. The prince of the father's house of the Kohathite families is Elizaphan the son of Uziel.
31. Their charge [included] the ark, the table, the menorah, the altars, and the holy utensils with which they would minister, and the screen and all the work involved.
32. The prince over all the princes of the Levites shall be Eleazar the son of Aaron the kohen, the appointment of all the keepers of the charge of the Holy. 33. For Merari, the Machlite family and the Mushite family; these are the families of Merari. 34. Their tally according to the number of males from the age of one month and upward was six thousand two hundred. 35. The prince of the father's house of the Merarite families is Zuriel the son of Abihail; they shall camp on the north side of the Mishkan. 36. The appointment of the charge of the sons of Merari [included] the planks of the Mishkan, its bars, its pillars, and its sockets, all its utensils, and all the work involved. 37. Also the pillars of the surrounding courtyard, their sockets, their stakes, and their ropes.
38. Camping in front of the Mishkan, in front of the Tent of Meeting to the east were Moses, Aaron and his sons, the keepers of the charge of the Sanctuary as a trust for the children of Israel; any outsider who approaches shall be put to death.
39. The sum of the male Levites according to their families, from the age of one month and upward, counted by Moses and Aaron according to the word of the Lord, was twenty two thousand.

Chapter 120

This psalm rebukes slanderers, describing how the deadly effect of slander reaches even further than weapons.

1. A song of ascents. I have called out to the Lord in my distress, and He answered me. 2. O Lord, rescue my soul from the lips of falsehood, from a deceitful tongue. 3. What can He give you, and what [further restraint] can He add to you, O deceitful tongue? 4. [You resemble] the sharp arrows of a mighty one, and the coals of broom-wood.1 5. Woe unto me that I sojourned among Meshech, that I dwelt beside the tents of Kedar. 6. Too long has my soul dwelt among those who hate peace. 7. I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

Chapter 121

This psalm alludes to the Lower Paradise, from which one ascends to the Higher Paradise. It also speaks of how God watches over us.

1. A song of ascents. I lift my eyes to the mountains-from where will my help come? 2. My help will come from the Lord, Maker of heaven and earth. 3. He will not let your foot falter; your guardian does not slumber. 4. Indeed, the Guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. 5. The Lord is your guardian; the Lord is your protective shade at your right hand. 6. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7. The Lord will guard you from all evil; He will guard your soul. 8. The Lord will guard your going and your coming from now and for all time.

Chapter 122

The psalmist sings the praises of Jerusalem and tells of the miracles that happened there.

Leviticus Chapter 3

1. These are the descendants of Moses and Aaron on the day that the Lord spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai. 2. These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 3. These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed kohanim, whom he consecrated to serve as kohanim.4. Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord when they brought alien fire before the Lord in the Sinai desert, and they had no children. Eleazar and Ithamar, however, served as kohanim in the presence of Aaron, their father. 5. The Lord spoke to Moses saying:6. 97. O how I love Your Torah! All day it is my discussion. 98. Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me. 99. From all my teachers I have gained wisdom, for Your testimonies are my discussion. 100. I will be more perceptive than elders, because I have guarded Your precepts. 101. I have restrained my feet from every evil path, that I might keep Your word. 102. I have not turned away from Your judgments, for You have instructed me. 103. How sweet are Your words to my palate, [sweeter] than honey to my mouth! 104. From Your precepts I gain understanding, therefore I hate every path of falsehood. 105. Every person must know that G-d, through His individual Providence,
gives each person the ability to bring G-d's supernal Will from the
potential state to the actual.

This is done through fulfilling the mitzvot and strengthening Judaism
and our holy Torah at all times in every place. All depends solely
upon one's Avoda.

The beginning of one's decline,
G-d save us, is the lack of Avoda in
davening. Everything becomes dry and
cold. Even a mitzva performed
by habit * becomes burdensome. Everything is
rushed. One loses the
sense of pleasure in Torah-study. The atmosphere
itself become crass.
Needless to say, one is totally incapable of
influencing others.

Psalms for Day 25

119 Verses 1-96

David composed this prominent psalm in alphabetical sequence-eight verses for each letter. Every verse contains one of the following words (referring to different aspects of Torah): Way; Torah; Testimony; Precept; Commandment; Statement (translated here as Word or Promise); Word; Judgement (or Laws); Righteousness; Statute. Replete with morals and prayers, this psalm should be recited daily, as a powerful preparation for the service of God. (In verses beginning with one of the letters of the mnemonic PeReTZ BeN DaMaH, the word "עדותיך" is pronounced "eidvotecha.")

1. Fortunate are those whose way is artless, who walk with the Torah of the Lord. 2. Fortunate are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with all their hearts. 3. Indeed, they have not done iniquity; they walk in His ways. 4. You have commanded Your precepts to be observed diligently. 5. My wish is that my ways be directed to keep Your statutes. 6. I will speak of Your testimonies before kings, and I will not be ashamed. 47. And I will delight in Your commandments, which I love. 48. I will lift up my hands to Your commandments, which I love, and I will speak of Your statutes. 49. Remember the word [promised] to Your servant, by which You gave me hope. 50. This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life. 51. [Though] the wicked ridicule me severely, I have not strayed from Your Torah. 52. The Lord is my portion; I pledged to keep Your words. 58. I pleaded before You with all my heart: have compassion upon me according to Your word. 59. I contemplated my ways, and returned my feet to Your testimonies. 60. I hurried and did not delay to keep Your commandments. 61. Bands of wicked men plundered me, [but] I did not forget Your Torah. 62. At midnight, I rise to thank You for Your righteous judgments. 63. I am a friend to all who fear You, and to those who keep Your precepts. 64. Your kindness, O Lord, fills the earth; teach me Your statutes. 65. You have dealt goodness to Your servant, O Lord, in accord with Your promise. 66. Teach me the goodness and wisdom of the [Torah's] reasons, for I believe in Your commandments. 67. Before I afflicted myself, I would blunder; but now I observe Your word. 68. You are good and benevolent; teach me Your statutes. 69. The wicked have smeared me with lies, [when in truth] I keep Your precepts with all my heart. 70. Their hearts grew thick as fat; but as for me, Your Torah is my delight. 71. It is for my good that I was afflicted, so that I might learn Your statutes. 72. The Torah of Your mouth is better for me than thousands in gold and silver. 73. Your hands have made me and prepared me; grant me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments. 74. Those who fear You will see me and rejoice, because I hoped in Your word. 75. I know, O Lord, that Your judgments are just; righteously have You afflicted me. 76. Let Your kindness be my comfort, as You promised to Your servant. 77. Let Your mercies come upon me, that I may live, for Your Torah is my delight. 78. Let the scoffers be shamed, for they have maligned me with falsehood; but I will meditate upon Your precepts. 79. May those who fear You return to me, and those who know Your testimonies. 80. May my heart be perfect in Your statutes, so that I not be shamed. 81. My soul longs for Your salvation; I hope for Your word. 82. My eyes long for Your promise, saying, "When will You comfort me?” 83. Though I became [dried out] like a wineskin in smoke, I did not forget Your statutes. 84. How many are the days of Your servant? When will You execute judgment upon my pursuers? 85. The wicked have dug pits for me, in violation of Your Torah. 86. All Your commandments teach truth, [yet] they pursue me with lies, help me! 87. They nearly consumed me upon the earth, but I did not forsake Your precepts. 88. As befits Your kindness, grant me life, and I will keep the testimony of Your mouth. 89. Forever, O Lord, Your word stands firm in the heavens. 90. Your faithfulness persists for all generations; You established the earth, and it stands. 91. They stand ready today [to execute] Your judgments, for all are Your servants. 92. Had Your Torah not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. 93. Never will I forget Your precepts, for through them You have sustained me. 94. I am Yours; save me, for I have sought Your precepts. 95. The wicked hope to destroy me, but I meditate upon Your testimonies. 96. To every goal I have seen a limit, but Your commandment is immensely broad.

Psalms for Day 24

Chapter 113

This psalm recounts some of the wonders of the exodus from Egypt.

1. Praise the Lord! Offer praise, you servants of the Lord; praise the Name of the Lord. 2. May the Name of the Lord be blessed from now and to all eternity. 3. From the rising of the sun to its setting, the Name of the Lord is praised. 4. The Lord is high above all nations; His glory transcends the heavens. 5. Who is like the Lord our God, Who dwells on high 6. [yet] looks down so low upon heaven and earth! 7. He raises the poor from the dust, lifts the destitute from the dunghill, 8. to seat them with nobles, with the nobles of His people. 9. He transforms the barren woman into a household, into a joyful mother of children. Praise the Lord!

Chapter 114

This psalm explains why the tribe of Judah merited kingship.

1. When Israel went out of Egypt, the House of Jacob from a people of a foreign tongue, 2. Judah became His holy [nation], Israel, His domain. 3. The sea saw and fled, the Jordan turned backward. 4. The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like young sheep. 5. What is the matter with you, O sea, that you flee; Jordan, that you turn backward; 6. mountains, that you skip like rams; hills, like young sheep? 7. [We do so] before the Master, the Creator of the earth, before the God of Jacob, 8. Who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flintstone into a water fountain.

Chapter 115

A prayer that God bring this long exile to an end, for the sake of His Name-that it not be desecrated.

1. Not for our sake, Lord, not for our sake, but for the sake of Your Name bestow glory, because of Your kindness and Your truth. 2. Why should the nations say, "Where, now, is their God?” 3. Indeed, our God is in heaven; whatever He desires, He does. 4. Their idols are of silver and gold, the product of human hands. 5. They have a mouth, but cannot speak; they have eyes, but cannot see; 6. they have ears, but cannot hear; they have a nose, but cannot smell; 7. their hands cannot touch; their feet cannot walk; they can make no sound in their throat. 8. Those who make them will become like them-all who put their trust in them. 9. Israel, trust in the Lord; He is their help and their shield. 10. House of Aaron, trust in the Lord; He is their help and their shield. 11. You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord; He is their help and their shield. 12. The Lord who is ever mindful of us, may He bless: May He bless the House of Israel; may He bless the House of Aaron; 13. may He bless those who fear the Lord, the small with the great. 14. May the Lord increase [blessing] upon you, upon you and upon your children. 15. You are blessed by the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. 16. The heavens are the Lord's heavens, but the earth He gave to the children of man. 17. The dead cannot praise the Lord, nor any who descend into the silence [of the grave]. 18. But we will bless the Lord from now to eternity. Praise the Lord!

Chapter 116

This psalm contains magnificent praises to God. It also describes David's love for God, in light of all the miracles He performed for him. David does not know how to repay God, declaring it impossible to pay back for all God has done for him.

1. I would love if the Lord would listen to my voice, to my supplications; 2. if He would turn His ear to me on the days when I call. 3. The pangs of death encompassed me and the misery of the grave came upon me; I encounter trouble and sorrow. 4. I invoke the Name of the Lord, "Lord, I implore you, deliver my soul!” 5. The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is compassionate. 6. The Lord watches over the simpletons; I was brought low, and He saved me. 7. Return, my soul, to your tranquility, for the Lord has bestowed goodness upon you. 8. For You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. 9. I shall walk before the Lord in the lands of the living. 10. I had faith even when I declared, "I am greatly afflicted"; 11. [even when] I said in my haste, "All men are deceitful.” 12. How can I repay the Lord for all His beneficences to me? 13. I will raise the cup of deliverance and proclaim the Name of the Lord. 14. I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all His people. 15. Grievous in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His pious ones. 16. I thank you, Lord, that since I am Your servant, I am Your servant the son of Your maidservant, You have loosened my bonds. 17. To You I will bring an offering of thanksgiving, and proclaim the Name of the Lord. 18. I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all His people, 19. in the courtyards of the House of the Lord, in the midst of Jerusalem. Praise the Lord!

Chapter 117

This psalm of two verses alludes to the Messianic era, when the Children of Israel will enjoy their former glory. All will praise God, in fulfillment of the verse, "All will then call in the Name of God."

1. Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol Him, all you peoples. 2. For His kindness was mighty over us, and the truth of the Lord is everlasting. Praise the Lord!

Chapter 118

This psalm describes David's immense trust in God. It also contains many praises to God, Who has fulfilled that which He has promised us.

1. Offer praise to the Lord for He is good, for His kindness is everlasting. 2. Let Israel declare that His kindness is everlasting. 3. Let the House of Aaron declare that His kindness is everlasting. 4. Let those who fear the Lord declare that His kindness is everlasting. 5. From out of distress I called to God; with abounding relief, God answered me. 6. The Lord is with me, I do not fear-what can man do to me? 7. The Lord is with me among my helpers, and I will see [the downfall of] my enemies. 8. It is better to rely on the Lord than to trust in man. 9. It is better to rely on the Lord than to trust in nobles. 10. All the nations surrounded me, but in the Name of the Lord I will cut them down. 11. They surrounded me, they encompassed me, but in the Name of the Lord I will cut them down. 12. They surrounded me like bees, yet they shall be extinguished like fiery thorns; in the Name of the Lord I will cut them down. 13. You [my foes] repeatedly pushed me to fall, but the Lord helped me. 14. God is my strength and song, and He has been a help to me. 15. The sound of rejoicing and deliverance reverberates in the tents of the righteous, "The right hand of the Lord performs deeds of valor. 16. The right hand of the Lord is exalted; the right hand of the Lord performs deeds of valor!” 17. I shall not die, but I shall live and recount the deeds of God. 18. God has indeed chastised me, but He did not give me up to death. 19. Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter them and praise God. 20. This is the gate of the Lord, the righteous will enter it. 21. I offer thanks to You, for You have answered me, and You have been my deliverance. 22. The stone which the builders scorned has become the chief cornerstone. 23. From the Lord has this come about; it is wondrous in our eyes. 24. This is the day which the Lord has made; let us be glad and rejoice on it. 25. We implore You, Lord, deliver us. We implore You, Lord, grant us success. 26. Blessed is he who comes in the Name of the Lord; we bless you from the House of the Lord. 27. The Lord is a benevolent God and He has given us light; bind the festival offering with cords until [you bring it to] the horns of the altar. 28. You are my God and I will praise You, my God-and I will exalt You. 29. Praise the Lord for He is good, for His kindness is everlasting.

Chapter 108

1. A song, a psalm by David. 2. My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and chant praises even with my soul. 3. Awake, O lyre and harp; I shall awaken the dawn. 4. I will thank You among the nations, Lord; I will sing praises to You among the peoples. 5. Indeed, Your kindness reaches above the heavens; Your truth reaches to the skies. 6. Be exalted upon the heavens, O God, [show] Your glory upon all the earth. 7. That Your beloved ones may be delivered, help with Your right hand and answer me. 8. God spoke in His holiness that I would exult, I would divide portions [of the enemies' land], I would measure the Valley of Succot. 9. Mine is Gilead, mine is Manasseh, and Ephraim is the stronghold of my head, Judah is my prince. 10. Moab is my washbasin, I will cast my shoe upon Edom, I will shout over Philistia. 11. Who brings me to the fortified city? Who led me unto Edom? 12. Is it not God, Who has [until now] forsaken us, and did not go forth, O God, with our armies? 13. Give us help against the adversary; futile is the help of man. 14. Through God we will do valiantly, and He will trample our oppressors.

Chapter 109

David composed this psalm while fleeing from Saul. At that time he faced many enemies who, despite acting friendly in his presence, spoke only evil of him; he therefore curses them bitterly.

1. For the Conductor, by David, a psalm. O God of my praise, be not silent. 2. For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful have opened against me; they spoke to me with a false tongue. 3. They have surrounded me with words of hate, and attacked me without cause. 4. In return for my love they hate me; still, I am [a man of] prayer. 5. They placed harm upon me in return for my favor, and hatred in return for my love. 6. Appoint a wicked man over him; let an adversary stand at his right. 7. When he is judged may he go out condemned; may his prayer be considered a sin. 8. May his days be few; may another take his position. 9. May his children be orphans and his wife a widow. 10. May his children wander about and beg; may they seek charity from amid their ruins. 11. May the creditor seize all that he has, and may strangers plunder [the fruits of] his labor. 12. May he have none who extends him kindness, and may none be gracious to his orphans. 13. May his posterity be cut off; may their name be erased in a later generation. 14. May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered by the Lord, and the sin of his mother not be erased. 15. May they be before the Lord always, and may He cut off their memory from the earth. 16. Because he did not remember to do kindness, and he pursued the poor and destitute man and the broken-hearted, to kill [him]. 17. He loved the curse and it has come upon him; he did not desire blessing, and it has remained far from him. 18. He donned the curse like his garment, and it came like water into his innards, like oil into his bones. 19. May it be to him like a cloak in which he wraps himself, as a belt with which he girds himself always. 20. This is from the Lord for the deeds of my enemies, and [for] those who speak evil against my soul. 21. And You, God, my Lord, do [kindness] with me for the sake of Your Name; for Your kindness is good, rescue me! 22. For I am poor and destitute, and my heart has died within me. 23. Like the fleeting shadow I am banished, I am tossed about like the locust. 24. My knees totter from fasting, and my flesh is lean without fat. 25. And I became a disgrace to them; they see me and shake their heads. 26. Help me, Lord, my God, deliver me according to Your kindness. 27. Let them know that this is Your hand, that You, Lord, have done it. 28. Let them curse, but You will bless; they arose, but they will be shamed, and Your servant will rejoice. 29. May my adversaries be clothed in humiliation; may they wrap themselves in their shame as in a cloak. 30. I will thank the Lord profusely with my mouth, and amid the multitude I will praise Him, 31. when He stands at the right of the destitute one to deliver him from the condemners of his soul.

Chapter 110

This psalm records the response of Eliezer, servant of Abraham (to those who asked how Abraham managed to defeat the four kings). He tells of Abraham killing the mighty kings and their armies. Read, and you will discover that the entire psalm refers to Abraham, who merited prominence for recognizing God in his youth.

1. By David, a psalm. The Lord said to my master, "Sit at My right, until I make your enemies a stool for your feet.” 2. The staff of your strength the Lord will send from Zion, to rule amid your enemies. 3. Your people [will come] willingly on the day of your campaign; because of your splendid sanctity from when you emerged from the womb, you still possess the dew of your youth. 4. The Lord has sworn and will not regret: "You shall be a priest forever, just as Melchizedek!” 5. My Lord is at your right; He has crushed kings on the day of His fury. 6. He will render judgement upon the nations, and they will be filled with corpses; He will crush heads over a vast land. 7. He will drink from the stream on the way, and so will hold his head high.

Chapter 111

This psalm is written in alphabetical sequence, each verse containing two letters, save the last two verses which contain three letters each. The psalm is short yet prominent, speaking of the works of God and their greatness.

1. Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart, in the counsel of the upright and the congregation. 2. Great are the works of the Lord, [yet] available to all who desire them. 3. Majesty and splendor are His work, and His righteousness endures forever. 4. He established a memorial for His wonders, for the Lord is gracious and compassionate. 5. He gave food to those who fear Him; He remembered His covenant always. 6. He has declared the power of His deeds to His people, to give them the inheritance of nations. 7. The works of His hands are true and just; all His mandates are faithful. 8. They are steadfast for ever and ever, for they are made with truth and uprightness. 9. He sent redemption to His people, [by] commanding His covenant forever; holy and awesome is His Name. 10. The beginning of wisdom is fear of the Lord; sound wisdom for all who practice it-his praise endures forever.

Chapter 112

This psalm, too, follows alphabetical sequence, each verse containing two letters, save the last two which contain three letters each. It speaks of the good traits man should choose, and of how to give charity-the reward for which is never having to rely on others.

1. Praise the Lord! Fortunate is the man who fears the Lord, and desires His commandments intensely. 2. His descendants will be mighty on the earth; he will be blessed with an upright generation. 3. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. 4. Even in darkness light shines for the upright, for [He is] Compassionate, Merciful, and Just. 5. Good is the man who is compassionate and lends, [but] provides for his own needs with discretion. 6. For he will never falter; the righteous man will be an eternal remembrance. 7. He will not be afraid of a bad tiding; his heart is steadfast, secure in the Lord. 8. His heart is steadfast, he does not fear, until he sees his oppressors [destroyed]. 9. He has distributed [his wealth], giving to the needy. His righteousness will endure forever; his might will be uplifted in honor. 10. The wicked man will see and be angry; he will gnash his teeth and melt away; the wish of the wicked will be ruined.

Chapter 106


The psalmist continues the theme of the previous psalm, praising God for performing other miracles not mentioned previously, for "who can recount the mighty acts of God?" Were we to try, we could not mention them all!

1. Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord for He is good, for His kindness is everlasting. 2. Who can recount the mighty acts of the Lord, or proclaim all His praises? 3. Fortunate are those who preserve justice, who perform deeds of righteousness all the time. 4. Remember me, Lord, when You find favor with Your people; be mindful of me with Your deliverance; 5. to behold the prosperity of Your chosen, to rejoice in the joy of Your nation, to glory with Your inheritance. 6. We have sinned as did our fathers, we have acted perversely and wickedly. 7. Our fathers in Egypt did not contemplate Your wonders, they did not remember Your abundant kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, at the Sea of Reeds. 8. Yet He delivered them for the sake of His Name, to make His strength known. 9. He roared at the Sea of Reeds and it dried up; He led them through the depths, as through a desert. 10. He saved them from the hand of the enemy, and redeemed them from the hand of the foe. 11. The waters engulfed their adversaries; not one of them remained. 12. Then they believed in His words, they sang His praise. 13. They quickly forgot His deeds, they did not wait for His counsel; 14. and they lusted a craving in the desert, they tested God in the wilderness. 15. And He gave them their request, but sent emaciation into their souls. 16. They angered Moses in the camp, and Aaron, the Lord's holy one. 17. The earth opened and swallowed Dathan, and engulfed the company of Abiram; 18. and a fire burned in their assembly, a flame set the wicked ablaze. 19. They made a calf in Horeb, and bowed down to a molten image. 20. They exchanged their Glory for the likeness of a grass-eating ox. 21. They forgot God, their savior, Who had performed great deeds in Egypt, 22. wonders in the land of Ham, awesome things at the Sea of Reeds. 23. He said that He would destroy them-had not Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him, to turn away His wrath from destroying. 24. They despised the desirable land, they did not believe His word. 25. And they murmured in their tents, they did not heed the voice of the Lord. 26. So He raised His hand [in oath] against them, to cast them down in the wilderness, 27. to throw down their progeny among the nations, and to scatter them among the lands. 28. They joined themselves to [the idol] Baal Peor, and ate of the sacrifices to the dead; 29. they provoked Him with their doings, and a plague broke out in their midst. 30. Then Phineas arose and executed judgement, and the plague was stayed; 31. it was accounted for him as a righteous deed, through all generations, forever. 32. They angered Him at the waters of Merivah, and Moses suffered on their account; 33. for they defied His spirit, and He pronounced [an oath] with His lips. 34. They did not destroy the nations as the Lord had instructed them; 35. rather, they mingled with the nations and learned their deeds. 36. They worshipped their idols, and they became a snare for them. 37. They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons. 38. They spilled innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land became guilty with blood. 39. They were defiled by their deeds, and went astray by their actions. 40. And the Lord's wrath blazed against His people, and He abhorred His inheritance; 41. so He delivered them into the hands of nations, and their enemies ruled them. 42. Their enemies oppressed them, and they were subdued under their hand. 43. Many times did He save them, yet they were rebellious in their counsel and were impoverished by their sins. 44. But He saw their distress, when He heard their prayer; 45. and He remembered for them His covenant and He relented, in keeping with His abounding kindness, 46. and He caused them to be treated mercifully by all their captors. 47. Deliver us, Lord our God; gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to Your Holy Name and glory in Your praise. 48. Blessed is the Lord, the God of Israel, forever and ever. And let all the people say, "Amen! Praise the Lord!"

Chapter 107

This psalm speaks of those who are saved from four specific perilous situations(imprisonment, sickness, desert travel, and sea travel) and must thank God, for their sins caused their troubles, and only by the kindness of God were they saved. It is therefore appropriate that they praise God and tell of their salvation to all.

1. Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, for His kindness is everlasting. 2. So shall say those redeemed by the Lord, those whom He redeemed from the hand of the oppressor. 3. He gathered them from the lands-from east and from west, from north and from the sea. 4. They lost their way in the wilderness, in the wasteland; they found no inhabited city. 5. Both hungry and thirsty, their soul languished within them. 6. They cried out to the Lord in their distress; He delivered them from their afflictions. 7. He guided them in the right path to reach an inhabited city. 8. Let them give thanks to the Lord, and [proclaim] His wonders to the children of man, 9. for He has satiated a thirsting soul, and filled a hungry soul with goodness. 10. Those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, bound in misery and chains of iron, 11. for they defied the words of God and spurned the counsel of the Most High- 12. He humbled their heart through suffering; they stumbled and there was none to help. 13. They cried out to the Lord in their distress; He saved them from their afflictions. 14. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and sundered their bonds. 15. Let them give thanks to the Lord for His kindness, and [proclaim] His wonders to the children of man, 16. for He broke the brass gates and smashed the iron bars. 17. Foolish sinners are afflicted because of their sinful ways and their wrongdoings. 18. Their soul loathes all food, and they reach the gates of death. 19. They cried out to the Lord in their distress; He saved them from their afflictions. 20. He sent forth His command and healed them; He delivered them from their graves. 21. Let them give thanks to the Lord for His kindness, and [proclaim] His wonders to the children of man. 22. Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and joyfully recount His deeds. 23. Those who go down to the sea in ships, who perform tasks in mighty waters; 24. they saw the works of the Lord and His wonders in the deep. 25. He spoke and caused the stormy wind to rise, and it lifted up the waves. 26. They rise to the sky, plunge to the depths; their soul melts in distress. 27. They reel and stagger like a drunkard, all their skill is to no avail. 28. They cried out to the Lord in their distress, and He brought them out from their calamity. 29. He transformed the storm into stillness, and the waves were quieted. 30. They rejoiced when they were silenced, and He led them to their destination. 31. Let them give thanks to the Lord for His kindness, and [proclaim] His wonders to the children of man. 32. Let them exalt Him in the congregation of the people, and praise Him in the assembly of the elders. 33. He turns rivers into desert, springs of water into parched land, 34. a fruitful land into a salt-marsh, because of the wickedness of those who inhabit it. 35. He turns a desert into a lake, and parched land into springs of water. 36. He settles the hungry there, and they establish a city of habitation. 37. They sow fields and plant vineyards which yield fruit and wheat. 38. He blesses them and they multiply greatly, and He does not decrease their cattle. 39. [If they sin,] they are diminished and cast down through oppression, misery, and sorrow. 40. He pours contempt upon distinguished men, and causes them to stray in a pathless wilderness. 41. He raises the needy from distress, and makes their families [as numerous] as flocks. 42. The upright observe this and rejoice, and all the wicked close their mouth. 43. Let him who is wise bear these in mind, and then the benevolent acts of the Lord will be understood.
