Day 2 and Day 3 - Hurricane Katrina and Bible Study

Pall

The pall came from the east.

The day started out as routine. The attention of the infirm is my usual prayer. Until I was confronted with the need of this hour.

Avis went to emergency and so did the baby and the two year-old.

While they were being treated the five remaining adults and six children need care. Sleepless since the disaster, the grownups chose to sleep in the beds provided for them rather than nourish their bodies.

The weary lot. The burden was so heavy that they could barely speak above a whisper. They managed some sleep for a few hours while we intertained and occupied the youngs ones.

So much energy, and so resilient. They have always been cared for, looked healthy and seemed less weary for the ware. They wanted to play and ate everything in sight. Till finally they began to play in their undisciplined manner with the viands.

They seemed untouched by the ordeal.

The heaviness of the adults, even from rest; it was all they could do to marshall themselves to a shower and clean clothes. The children as well as themselves had been provided for by the good grace that Almighty bestowed on His people.

Waiting, waiting. What a weary trek. With no end in sight.

Finally, the next leg. Out of the far north came more help.

Grateful, gathering what meager belongings afforded to them, they packed, said good-bye. The children and the mother surprising us with heartfelt embraces.

And they were gone.

Never to be encountered again?

But the pall remained. Like a gloomy mist, a message unwelcomed, but entertained. Yes, it remained.

It was heavy. We were weary. We were worn.

"Sure-ely, sure-ely, He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows. And the L-RD hath laid on Him the iniquities of us all."
