In our natural state we have no knowledge of a need for G-d. An atheist is a fool not because he does not believe but because he does not acknowledge that he will be accountable for his soul.
The lost soul does not know he is lost. We learn from the Lord himself that no man can come to G-d except he be drawn first. This is why we must be born-again.
In the Torah portion this week we see the Grace of G-d illustrated.
It is He who totally provides for our physical needs and conversely, for our spiritual needs.
With so much rest mandated (The Sabbath, The Jubilee, plus the sabbaths which the land observe) it is wonder we reap anythig for ourselves.
But G-d provides. The Lord said, "seek first the Kingdom... and all these things will be added to you." How sinful we are to expect G-d to bless us because of our efforts.
Even in desperation we sell our souls into slavery but G-d provides a redeemer to rescue us.
We willingly gave ourselves into bondage of sin but He rescued us.
"Jesus, lover of my soul let me to thy bosom fly.
While the nearer waters flow and the tempest still is nigh.
Hide me O my savior hide
Till the storm of life is spent.
Safe into the harbor guide,
O receive my soul atlast."
"If a resident alien among you has prospered, and your kinsman being in straits, comes under his authority and gives himself over to the resident alien among you, or to an offshoot of an alien's family, he shall have the right of redemption even after he has given himself over."
