Two fishies

This Sabbath marks the end of the Torah reading K'doshim (Holiness, Leviticus 19-20).

"Be ye holy for I am holy" is the word of the L-RD.

As our own righteousness will be discounted and must yield to the righteousness of Christ, so our holiness is also discarded and replaced with His.

"You are holy because I am holy."

Atonement is the discarding of our righteousness in order for to make way for His rightousness which is imputed upon us.

Holiness is imputed on us as well. Where as we see holiness as acts of our on volition, holiness is a characteristic of our position; our position in Messiah, I might add.
You cannot will holiness, it is impressed upon you. It is a gift.

Of all of the gifts of holiness one impresses me the most.

In Sedrah 4 (19:33-37) we see ou relationship with the stranger. We are that stranger. "We are strangers. We are aliens. We are not of this world" the song echoes Scripture. The L-RD admonishes Moses, you are not to own land because the land is His; you merely lease it out 50-years at a stretch.

Our relationship with "strangers" must be that of peace and safetiness (yes, safetiness, the quantity, not safety the quality).

In ancient times caravans traversing the Near East left graffiti to mark their way. One such symbol was a drawing of two fishes. These two markings represented the Jew.

Isra'el is designated in astrology by the house of Pisces. As strangers approached a merchant they would look for the "two fishes." this meant that the merchant they were approaching was a Jew. The Jew was bound by covenant to His G-d to use honest weights and never to defraud another; especially a stranger.

So traders traveling east and west knew that this merchant was bound by honesty and would therefore receive the best quality, an honest quantity and the best trade for his money.

The stranger felt safe in the presence of holiness. Holiness. The mark of his G-d.

In Talmud Yeshua (Romans 12; 1 Corinthians 12) we learn of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts wholely mark Him. These gifts include miracles, healings, utterances, prophecy, etc. These gifts are not imputed on us but enacted on us by Him.

On the other hand, holiness is acts. "That they may see <I>your good works and glorify your Father who is in Heaven."

Rejoice in holiness. Your holiness. The presenc of G-d in your life.
